NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
York United FC has selected Christian Zeppieri and Jason Hartill in the 2024 CPL – U SPORTS Draft, presented by Degree.

Zeppieri, from Maple, Ont and just a stone’s throw from The Nine Stripes club offices – started 12 games in his rookie year with the York Lions and scored four times – his first goal coming on his debut for the team.

The midfielder knows a thing or two about delivering in big moments too, particularly at York Lions Stadium. In the OUA semi-final against Ontario Tech University, he stepped up to curl home a superb free-kick in the 110th-minute.

The 20-year-old accumulated over 1,500 minutes of action – spread across 20 appearances – with League1 Ontario powerhouses Vaughan Azzurri in 2023, scoring once. His performances were so impressive that he was shortlisted for both Midfielder of the Year and U20 Player of the Year.

19-year-old Hartill is another midfielder, and arrives at The Nine Stripes from Cape Breton University. A native of Carleton Place, Ont, he appeared 12 times for the Capers in 2023, registered one assist and earned some lavish praise from Head Coach Deano Morley, who has described him as ‘highly skilled, brave and a player who takes responsibility’.
Hartill is a strong, technical player who is especially tenacious out of possession. With York United having previously drafted Isaiah Johnston from the Capers in the 2020 CPL – U SPORTS Draft, Hartill will look to plough a similar path.
