Tiger-Cats 23 vs Argonauts 30
The Argos defeated the Tiger-Cats 30-23 at the Alumni Stadium in Guelph, Ontario, after finding the rhythm in the second half. Hamilton limited Toronto to three points in the first half, but could not take advantage of his solid defense to take the lead.
Toronto woke up in the third quarter, with a long offensive series for TouchDown, followed by an explosive 70-yard race by Jyran Mitchell to put the marker 17-17 at the beginning of the room. The Argos took the lead with a Touchdown 10 yards pass from Tucker Horne to Calvin Turner Jr. with 8:26 for playing and did not look back.

Hamilton resumed the offensive where they had left it, limiting the Argos to 141 total yards in the first half. They allowed their first points of the night, a 38 -yard field goal by Lirim Hajrilahu, 24 minutes from the end of the second quarter. Toronto cleared seven of his eight offensive series at the beginning of the game.
The Qwuantrezz Knight LineBacker captured his coach’s attention in his second game with the tabbies, with two placentajes for loss of yards and seven defensive placages in total. He shared the team leadership with the Canadian defensive back Patrick Burke Jr. Apart from the yards loss, there were no really outstanding moves in an orderly first half by committee for the defense of the Ticats. These are encouraging signs for the regular season.
Veresuk’s persecution impresses once again
If the first spectacular backle in special teams from Devin Veresuk last week was not enough to earn a place on the game of the Ticats game, its second will be.
The second global selection of the CFL Draft of 2025 and graduate of the Windsor Lancers crossed the field at full speed to catch Turner Jr. in a refund of clearing in the second quarter. Ticats hope to have found an impact player for the coming years in Veresuk. So far, all good in its two career games in the CFL.
Coverage teams need to be better
The big clearance or kick returns often decide the parties in the CFL. A timely return for TouchDown can save a team from the abyss or be a coup of grace.
Although a 70 -yard race finally allowed the Argos to take control of the meeting, they were lucky that Toronto did not take impulse before with a great return. If not for Veresuk’s cup, Tucker Jr. could have caught the clearance he returned in the second quarter. Deonta McMahon and Turner had multiple additional opportunities to break containment and ruin the play.
Hamilton teams gave Toronto too much space and too many open lanes in the game back throughout the night. The Cats will need to improve this aspect of their game before the first game of the season. He did not leave them as bad as he could have done it against Toronto, but he will do it if he is not controlled.
The offensive cannot start early
Seven points are not enough when your defense keeps a team at 0 points during the first 29 minutes of the first half.
I am not so worried about the inability to overcome the final stretch and the failure of the starting attack to sentence the party. It was evident that both teams were taking advantage of the second half to get minutes of play for the greatest possible number of players. However, it is impossible to ignore the trend that marks the Ticats air attack from the beginning, for the second consecutive week.
Taylor Powell ended the night with an efficiency of 11 of 16 passes, adding 113 yards and two touchdowns for Keaton Brugging. Gavin Hardison entered and added 101 yards and a touchdown in his first offensive series of the night, but could not score the tie at his second exit. In summary, it was not a bad performance for the air game, they simply activated it too late.
Powell had the only touchdown pass in the first half, but it was the only important play of air ticats, caused by a long race of Treshaun Ward. Before Ward detached, Hamilton had nothing in attack. One or two more sustained offensive series that will end at points could have been the end of the Argos. Instead, both teams left the costumes with few differences.

One Thing Hamilton Can Take Away From This Game is the Performance of Keaton Brugels. HE PICKED UP A MONSTER 56 Yards After Contact On The Day.
A Six-Foot-Three, 225-Pound Receiver, Brugging Spent Three Seasons With The Ottawa Redblacks But Was Limited in His Use, Playing in Eight, 10, and 13 Games respectively. He was targedted just 12 times in ottawa, picking up eight receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown before signing with hyamilton in february.
Brugels Picked Up More Yards and TouchDowns on Saturday than He Did in His Senure With The Redblacks. He Will Have Trouble Cracking Hamilton’s Top Five Should Provide Excellent Dept.
Back Shoulder Beauty
Good On Hardison for Coming into the game and taking one of Hamilton’s Only Shots Downfield All Game. A FEW PLAYS INTO HIS CFL CAREER, HARDISON FOUND MATT LANDERS WITH A GORGEOUS BACK SHOULDER THROW WHERE ONLY THE COULD COUL GET IT. Landers Made The Grab Surrouted by A Sea Of Argonaut DBS.
HE CAPPED THE DRIVE OFF Later by Throwing A Strike Over The Middle to Tre’shaun Harrison to Cut Toronto’s Lead to 27-23. Hardison Finished 9-OF-15 with 101 yards, One Touchdown and A Long of 67.
On to Calgary
The Tiger-Cats Now turn their attention to the calgary stampeders ahead of the season Opener Next Saturday, June 7.
