Cineplex has confirmed its Queensway & VIP Cinemas in Etobicoke will stay open, easing fears it would be demolished for a massive condo redevelopment.
The company renewed its lease with long-term options of up to 20 years and installed banners outside the building to signal its commitment.
The theatre, one of the GTA’s busiest since opening in 2001, became the focus of community pushback after a proposal for 10 towers and 4,000 units sparked concern.
A Change.org petition to save the site has collected over 14,700 signatures.
To celebrate the news, Cineplex is offering $5 tickets and $5 popcorn this weekend.
