The home cooking of Yankee Stadium got New York City FC back to scoring goals and back in the win column after a dreary loss in Montréal.
The player ratings from the 3-1 win over Toronto FC are far more positive than the ones handed out after that Montréal defeat, when players were getting hammered with ratings in the 2s and 3s. You didn’t like what you saw at Stade Saputo but you loved what you saw in the Bronx on the night before the 4th of July.
The Starting XI averaged a 7.1 rating that was boosted significantly by two players coming in just a tick below 9.0 after they each added one goal and one assist. Four players were rated at over 8.0 including one substitute, fitting since this was only the second game of the season in which NYCFC got a goal from a player who emerged from the bench as a sub.
The undisputed stars of this match were the two players with two goal contributions, and only those two players received votes for Player of the Match.
