Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was injured by Sam Bennett tonight and it is apparent that he is suffering from a concussion.
As many already know, Anthony Stolarz was injured tonight by the elbow of Sam Bennett.
This happened during Game 1 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers. With Stolarz coming out, Joseph Woll went in and had himself a difficult night. Fortunately, he still got the win.
In footage posted online, Stolarz could be seen puking into a bucket which typically means a concussion is present. This is when he decided to take himself out.
Now, some disturbing news is being reported by Chris Johnston of TSN. Essentially, the Leafs goaltender had to be wheeled out of the Scotiabank Arena on a stretcher.
This is a truly awful update and it is one that will certainly have some fans feeling absolutely sick about tonight’s game and for good reason.
Anthony Stolarz has been a trooper all season long and he doesn’t deserve to go through this. We hope he is able to recover quickly.
As for Sam Bennett, some Maple Leafs fans are calling for his head tonight. Surely someone on the team is going to go out there and fight him.
Joseph Woll struggles to replace Anthony Stolarz
In relief of Stolarz, Woll was very shaky as he allowed three goals on less than 20 shots. It was not an ideal performance but to be fair, he was coming into the playoffs cold.
It seems like a foregone conclusion that Stolarz will not play in Game 2. It would be a miracle if he plays at all in this series given what he just went through.
Having said that, the NHL must take action against the Florida Panthers because this is truly unacceptable stuff.
