More than 100 Mexican wildfire personnel arrived in British Columbia on August 3, with over 200 additional personnel expected later that week.

Their deployment followed nearly 34,000 lightning strikes that triggered new fires and evacuation orders across southern British Columbia.

By July 24, the province was fighting 90 active wildfires and had issued 25 evacuation orders.

The federal response involved more than 5,300 firefighters and roughly 300 water bombers, helicopters and evacuation aircraft across Canada.

Nearly 2.95 million hectares had already burned nationwide, surpassing the ten-year average before the season was over.

Mexican crews arrived to work inside British Columbia’s existing incident-command system, bringing experienced help during the exhausting stretch after lightning creates dozens of fires at once.
