🚨🇨🇦 Authorities said the breakthrough came after a member of the public reported finding clothing matching what Parker was last seen wearing.
Search crews immediately focused on the area near Deerfoot Trail, where investigators believe the child entered a deep storm culvert that connects to an underground network of drainage pipes beneath the highway.
Emergency crews used specialized equipment to safely access the hazardous tunnel system before locating the child’s body on Wednesday afternoon, approximately 137 to 152 metres inside the underground pipes and about one kilometre from where Parker was last seen.
Police believe he was still wearing the same clothing, although his shoes were likely swept away by the water.
The search for Parker became one of Calgary’s largest missing-person operations in recent years.
Hundreds of police officers, trained search-and-rescue teams, and thousands of community volunteers participated in the effort. Investigators examined more than 600 public tips and reviewed nearly 100,000 CCTV video clips from over 650 cameras while working tirelessly to find him.
Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan described the discovery as an incredibly painful moment, expressing condolences to Parker’s family and thanking everyone who dedicated countless hours to the search.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, while the community mourns the loss of a young boy whose disappearance touched thousands across the city.
